The Exchange

The Exchange — a search over the public side of the Book.

The Exchange is three surfaces on the register: a search, Collections and Knowledge Calls. The search reads the public side of the Tacit Tessera Book — number, name, status, tile, scope statement — and nothing else. There is no list, browse, bulk or export endpoint.

Steady Eddie and Strategic Agent require skill sets. Even Steven owns them. Tacit Tessera licenses them to OEMs and to AI. Nothing has been searched on the register, and nothing has been licensed.

01What the search reads

The public side of the Card, and nothing behind it.

A search on the Exchange asks a question of the Book and answers it with the entries that match. It reads the fields a Card makes public: the sector, the track, the family and the trade, all in the number; the collector's mark on the tile; whether the entry is a Set and which kind; the licence kinds offered; the conditions; the Scope and Refuses words; and the one public status word, Specified.

It reads nothing licensee-side: the members of a Composite and their shares, the validation statuses, the meter class, the detail of the envelope, the count, the rate and any identity beyond the licence name are not on the public side of the Card, so they are not in the search.

02The search

The same wall as the Book, with the same chips.

The Exchange filters the same tiles the Book shows, by the same mechanism: a chip narrows the wall to one value of one field, a chip on a second field narrows it further, and the live chip clears itself when pressed again. Five worked examples stand here. The whole Book holds every entry.

EXAMPLE Every person shown carries an invented licence name. Licence kinds offered and conditions are Card fields, and every Card in the Book carries both; no entry narrows either yet, so no chip is drawn for them.

03The dimensions a buyer searches by

The context envelope, in the register's words.

Scope and Refuses are one object on the Card, the context envelope: what a skill set is for and where it stops, in the register's own words. A buyer searches by its parts.

Machine families

The family a set runs on, from the sector's table.

Attachments

What the machine carries, and what it refuses to carry.

Environment

Ground, weather, site and hours.

Materials

What is dug, pushed, placed, cut or priced.

Operating modes

Whether a person is at the machine; the set proposes, never authorizes.

Jurisdiction

Where the work may be done, under whose rules.

Stated assumptions

What the set takes as given.

Known exclusions

What the set refuses outright.

The envelope says what a set covers and what it refuses; it is not an approval, and a match is not a finding that the set suits the work. The Card is the preview.

04What the search is not

Not an enumeration, not an API, not an export.

The search is not an enumeration of the register: no page and no address returns the register whole, in any order, at any size.

It is not an API. The Verify API answers four things to anyone — whether the check character is valid, whether the register knows the number, its status, and whether the edition pinned is current — and answers an authenticated licensee about its own licence and nothing else. It refuses the rest, and there is no list, browse, bulk or export endpoint. The statement in full is on verify, and again on for AI.

It is not a browse-and-export: nothing on the Exchange can be taken away in bulk, and nothing is served as a file.

It is not a market in the ordinary sense. No result carries a figure; no order can be bought and no placement is paid for; entries within a family sit in no order; no result compares one entry with another or shows a contributor beyond the licence name. Nothing here has been bought, sold, filled or filed.

05From search to licence

Seven steps, in order.

01 · Search

A question put to the public side of the Book.

02 · Inspect the Card

Scope, Refuses, the kind, the licence kinds offered, the conditions.

03 · Verify the number

The seal check, recomputed every time.

04 · License

The kind, the term, the field of use, the territory, the conditions — one paper, an edition pinned.

05 · Integrate

The pinned edition goes to what runs it.

06 · Use

A job, a serve, a machine — under the kind and inside the envelope.

07 · The count

One signed row per use, read from both ends, paid through Even Steven.

Three licence kinds are offered: execution, learning and derivative. Each carries a term, a field of use and a territory. The conditions travel from the Card into the licence. Ownership does not move; the licensee runs an edition it has pinned.

Ending it follows the kind. On an execution licence: It stops for new work at once; a job already underway finishes. On a learning or derivative licence: Material used to build a model comes out at the model's next revision, and that date is stated to the person before they sign. The register never claims a model has forgotten anyone.

The other two surfaces, and where to go next

A Collection is a Set offered under one paper, shown as what it is; none is filed: Collections. A Knowledge Call is a buyer's statement of a skill it needs; Even Steven recruits and the register carries the call; no call is open: Knowledge Calls.

Every entry is in the Tacit Tessera Book; the licence, kind by kind, is at License.

No capture session has been recorded, no operator has been signed, nothing has been metered and nobody has been paid. Nothing has been searched on the register, and nothing has been licensed.
